Abstract
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Two step PRK and LASIK on the correction of high myopia ranging from -6.00D to -10.00D, we compared the Two step PRK procedure in 38 patients[50eyes] from September 94 to February 96 with the LASIK procedure in 182 patients[277 eyes] from January 97 to June 98 with myopia. The uncorrected visual acuity in LASIK group is better than that in PRK group at every time points. Especially, one week after surgery, only 10.0% in PRK group showed 0.8 or better but 37.7% in LASIK group. At 6 month after surgery, 50.0% and 70.5% showed 0.8 or better in PRK group and LASIK group respectively, and this difference was statistically significant[p<0.05]. We examined the recovery rate of UCVA 2 months and 6 months after PRK or LASIK compared with BCVA regarded as 100%. Those were 73.0% and 73.2% in PRK group and 79.4% and 84.3% in LASIK group. This difference was statistically significant[p=0.0048]. In consideration of refraction 6 month after surgery, 14 eyes[33.3%] were within+/-1.0D in PRK group and 55 eyes[55.6%] in LASIK group, respectively. In conclusion, the improvement of UCVA was more rapid in LASIK than in PRK and LASIK showed more stable refraction and lower incidence of corneal opacity.
