Abstract
PURPOSE
To compare the decentration and tilt between Acrysof(R) Single-piece and Acrysof(R) Multipiece posterior chamber intraocular lenses (PCLs). METHODS: The subjects of this study comprised 14 patients (15 eyes) using an Acrysof(R) Single-piece and 14 patients (15 eyes) using an Acrysof(R) Multipiece. All of these PCLs were inserted into the capsular bag after continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis and phacoemulsification. The decentration and tilt of the Acrysof(R) Single-piece and the Acrysof(R) Multipiece were measured on the 1st, 30th and 60th postoperative day using an anterior eye segment analysis system (EAS-1000, Nidek, Japan). RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in decentration between the Acrysof(R) Single-piece and the Acrysof(R) Multipiece PCL on the 1st (P=0.254), 30th (P=0.078), or 60th (P=0.520) postoperative day. Also, there was no statistically significant difference in tilt between the two PCLs on the 1st (P=0.165), 30th (P=0.395), or 60th (P=0.419) postoperative day. CONCLUSIONS: Although the decentration and tilt of the Acrysof(R) Single-piece and the Acrysof(R) Multipiece PCL showed no significant difference after 60 postoperative days, inappropriate insertion into the capsular bag may necessitate more long-term study and follow-up with numerous cases.
