Abstract
Five normal human lenses, ten cataractous human lenses, four cow lenses, four pig lenses and five rabbit lenses were investigated ultrasonographically, in situ and in vitro. Transparent human lenses, even in the presence of definite nucleus, were acoustically homogenous. Opaque human lenses reflected irregular echoes from interior of the lenses, number of echoes being dependent upon the frequency of the transducer, the positions of the transducer and amplifications of the instrument. Optically clear cow lenses were acoustically homogenous as the human clear lenses, while lenses of rabbits and pigs were definitely heterogenous and reflected irregular echoes.
