Abstract
This study was performed to evaluate the usefulness of measuring optic disc diameter for diagnosing glaucoma using Superfield and retinal scale. One hundred twenty-eight eyes of 72 patients with cup-disc ratio greater than 0.5 and suspected for having glaucoma were analysed. We compared optic disc size and cup-disc ratio among normal, glaucoma suspect, normal tension glaucoma[NTG], and primary open angle glaucoma[POAG]. The mean horizontal optic disc size was 2.01+/-0.21 mm in 24 normal eyes, 1.88+/-0.16 mm in 72 glaucoma suspects, 1.85+/-0.26 mmin 25 NTG, and 1.83+/-0.10mm in 7 POAG. The mean horizontal cup-disc ratio was 0.61+/-0.12 in normal eye, 0.69+/-0.11 in glaucoma suspect, 0.81+/-0.11 in NTG, and 0.76+/-0.18 in POAG. Normal eyes were larger than the others in optic disc size and smaller than the others in C/D ratio[p<0.05, respectively]. We concluded that measurement of optic disc size using Superfield and retinal scale would be helpful in diagnosing glaucoma.
