Abstract |
A case of bilateral papilledema in a 18-year-old female with cerebral venous thrombosis and systemic lupus erythematosus is presented. Clinical symptoms were progressive headache and visual impairment in both eyes. Examinations showed long-standing papilledema, enlarged blind spots, and increased intracranial pressure with an otherwise normal neurological examinations. Cerebral venous thrombosis was diagnosed based on cerebral angiography or brain MRI. Clinical and laboratory findings were compatible with systemic lupus erytematosus. The patient was treated with prednisolone and acetazolamide to reduce the intracranial hypertension and was fully anticoagulated with heparin followed by warfarin. Both vision and enlarged blind spots improved to normal. |
