Abstract
A case of electric cataracts in both eyes were presented. A 23 year old Korean Air-Forced soldier touched his right shoulder to a 22,900 volt, alternating current electric line on Feb. 15, 1972. He was unconcious for 25 hours and amnesic for 3 days. Also he sustained third or second degree burn on the neck, right hand and forearm, both lower extremities and superficial burns of the other body surface. Diminition of vision was first noted on April 15, 1972. When examined his vision on Aug. 14, 1972, the left eye was 20/100 and the right eye 20/30. And there were multiple fine scattered ant. subcapsular lens opacities in both eyes and left eye showed more numerous lens opacitities than right eye. By Dec. 27, 1972 there was a definite increase of the lens opacity in both eyes with marked post. subcapsular opacity and diffuse cortical hazy of the left eye. Vision was dropped to 20/70 in the right and hand movements in the left eye. For the left eye extracapsular lens extraction was done without any complication on Dec. 28, 1972. On July 10, 1973 the vision of the right eye was reduced to hand movements due to ant. and post. subcapsular opacities as well as cortical haze. On Sep. 27, 1973 extracapsular lens extraction was done. Vision was corrected as 20/20 in both eyes after operation and there were no complications.
