Abstract

Sclerosing orbital pseudotumor is a poorly delineated, fibrosing, immunemediated entity resulting in significant orbital disability. This disease is usually unilateral and chronic, characterized by infiltration, mass effect and visual loss. Frequently developing sites are orbital apex and lacrimal gland. The most common signs and symptoms are dull pain, proptosis, mild inflammation, restricted motility, swelling and diplopia. Pathologic features are early fibrosis and chronic inflammatory infiltration. Sclerosing orbital pseudotumor is similar to retroperitoneal fibrosis, that is characterized by primary chronic progression and poor response to corticosteroid treatment or radiotherapy and frequent visual disability. Early and aggressive immunosuppressive therapy is recommended. The authors experienced a male patient who had complained of headache, proptosis, ocular pain and visual loss on his right eye. According to clinical examination and pathologic finding of excisional biopsy, he was diagnosed as sclerosing orbital pseudotumor. In this article we present our case which was treated with antimetabolite.
