Abstract |
Primary or secondary IOL implantation after cataract extraction was performed in 41 eyes of 36 lepromatous leprosy patients, who showed negative skin test, from October 1990 to April 1992 at Chilgok Catholic Skin Clinic. Mean follow-up period was 8.3 months. Visual improvement was achieved in 39 eyes (95.1%), including 25 eyes (61.0%) of corrected vision better than 0.5. There was no serious complication induced by IOL implantation. But photophobia was complained in 18 eyes (66.7%) of 27 iridectomized eyes. We think that we may as well implant IOL after cataract extraction in lepromatous leprosy patients with complicated cataract if there is no active inflammatiQn in anterior chamber, guarded iridectomy is performed and it is possible to follow up considerably. |
