Abstract
Recently we have experienced a case of orbital lipoma, which occured in the left eye of a 28year-old Korean female. Decreased visual acuity and proptosis of 12 months duration were her chief complaints prior to her visit to hospital. Visual acuity was 1.2 in the right eye and 0.5 in the left eye, and ocular movement of the left eye was normal. The left eyeball was almost protruded out of the orbit. Affected eyeball was protruded 2.5mm than that of the unaffected with the Hertel exophthalmometer (reading: with a bar reading of 102mm, RE: 12.5mm, LE: 15mm). The intraocular pressure was (S.T)O.D.: 5.0/5.5 approximate value 17.30mmHg, O.S.: 4.5/7.5 approximate value 28.0mmHg. (A.T) O.D.: 16.0mmHg, O.S.: 26.0mmHg. Funduscopic examination of the left eye revealed temporal disk margin thins and excavation. Visual field examination with Goldman perimeter appeared sector defect of the inferior temporal portion. Positive contrast orbitography with 20% Hypaque, irregular large filling defect was noted in the medial upper quadrant of the orbit. A-scan ultrasonography revealed intraorbital space occupying mass of the nasal portion of the orbital apex on primary position through the eyelid. Surgical removal of the left orbital mass was made sucessfully under the general anesthesia. Histopathological study revealed fibrofatty tissue within normal limit of the left orbital mass in the superior nasal portion.
