A Prospective Clinical Study of Radial Keratotomy: Report 3.

Abstract
Clinical trial of radial keratotomy(RK) employing the Fyodorov method and instrumentation was initiated in January, 1982, after attendance (Dr. J.H. Kim) of R.K. course of Drs. Neumann-Shepard at San-Francisco on November, 1982. Authors performed 16 radial lines cut on the initial 17 eyes from February, 1983 to September, 1983. After then the number of the incisions was switched to 8 radial lines cut. The rusults of consecutive 348 eyes undergoing this surgical procedure for the reduction of myopia were analysed postoperatively on 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and over 1 year following surgery. Mean reduction on myopia was 3.86 diopters, that is, 2.12 diopters of low myopia, 3.38 diopters of moderate myopia, 4.63 diopters of high myopia. Mean reduction of keratometic reading was 3.24 diopters, that is, 3.07 diopters of low myopia, 3.21 diopters of moderate myopia, 3.27 diopters of high myopia. Authors have experienced 11 cases of microperforation during RK but the wound simply healed without any other problems. Uncorrected visual acuity after R.K. was 20/40 or better in 56% of entire eye group, that is, 78% of low myopia, 74% of moderate myopia, 34% of high myopia. And 90% of patients was satisfied with his visual outcome. We recommend RK on patients with having mild and moderate myopia and also anisometropia of unilateral high myopia.
