Abstract
A clinical review was made of 184 cases of nasolacrimal duct obstruction which underwent simple and advanced dacryocystorhinostomy that was modified and advanced by author himself from 1984 to June, 1987. My surgical techniques have the following some characteristics: (1) Minimal bleeding from skin to periosteum, osteotomy site and nasal mucosa by complete hemostasis in each surgical step. (2) Shortening duration of operation in osteotomy, with Kerrison punch and formation of large anterior lacrimal flaps without posterior flaps. (3) Lowering rates of reobstruction using canaliculo-nasal silicone intubation in new formed surgical anastomosis. The surgical success rate was improved from 90% in 1984 to 96% in 1987. Blood loss during operation was remarkably lessened from 64 cc in 1984 to 16 cc in 1987 by improvement of hemostasis and shortening operation time. Duration of operation was shortened from 90 min in 1984 to 35 min in 1987. The author will introduced my own surgical procedures more details.
