A Clinical Study on Recent Experienced Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachments.

Abstract
The author reviewed 61 rhegmatogenous retinal detachment patients(63 eyes) who underwent reattachment operation such as scleral buckling with cryopexy etc. in Korea University hospital(Guro) from 1984 to sept. 1987. Some results were obtained as fallows 1. Most of patients were between 20 and 50 years of age(59%) and male was affected more than famale. 2. In this study -2.0D of myopia or less, emmetropia and hyperopia were 52%. 3. Atrophic holes was the most common(40%) and horse-shoe shaped tear was 30%. Retinal breaks were mostly located in from ora to equator and upper ternporal portion of fundus. 4. Surgical success rate was 82.5% by scleral buckling and encircling with cryosurgery with or without drainage of subretinal fluid. 5. In the following conditions, poor results were supposed after retinal reattachment operation. 1) Extnet of detached area is more than 3 quadrant of the retina. 2) Retinal breaks near the posterior pole. 3) Retinal detachment in aphakia. 4) Old retinal detachment. 6. Formation of preretinal membrane was the most frequent postoperative complication.
